From Leash Reactive to Park Ready in 4 Weeks
View ServicesThe LLK9 Mission
My name is Jeremy Massey, and I'm the founder of Leash Legacy K9, based in Martinsville, Virginia. I work with dogs and handlers who need more than basic obedience—they need real-world control, calm behavior, and a path that actually holds up when you leave the living room.
My focus is behavior work and reactivity, but the heart of what I do is simple: I don't just train dogs—I teach people how to handle the dog they already have. For most owners, the problem isn't a lack of love or effort; it's a lack of clarity and structure. I'm here to bridge that gap.
That is the legacy I want to help you build.
To me, dog training is never just about commands. It's about helping families live in peace again. It's about giving an anxious or reactive dog a real chance to succeed and teaching a frustrated owner how to lead with structure instead of stress.
Training rooted in humane methods and professional standards. No dominance myths, no intimidation—just clear communication.
I believe calm is trained, not expected. We focus on your dog's nervous system first, ensuring they are in a state to learn before we ask for results.
We don't chase "perfect reps" in a sterile room. We train for stability under pressure—on walks, around guests, and near distractions.
I don't disappear after a session. I show up, I support, and I educate. The goal isn't just a trained dog; it's a confident handler.
Your dog's safety and your trust are my highest priorities
I follow training principles aligned with the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT) framework.
As an official evaluator, I help dogs and handlers work toward meaningful, functional obedience and everyday stability.
I specialize in helping dogs struggling with leash reactivity, overstimulation, anxiety, and inconsistent obedience outside the home.
What Training Looks Like
Whether your dog is here for a KickStarter Board & Train or we are working 1-on-1, the environment is designed to mimic real life.
Short, high-engagement sessions to build drive and clarity.
Teaching the dog to "turn off" and relax on a Place cot while life happens around them.
Every program concludes with a dedicated Handler Coaching session. I ensure you have the timing, the tools, and the plan to maintain your dog's progress.
Training isn't about shortcuts—it's about communication, consistency, and building a life you can enjoy with your dog.

Why Choose Us?
Because you deserve a dog you can actually take places.
We know why you're here. You've probably tried the group classes, watched the YouTube tutorials, and bought every "no-pull" harness on the market. Yet, you're still feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and maybe a little embarrassed by your dog's behavior.
Most people feel like they've failed their dog. At Leash Legacy K9, we believe you haven't failed—you just haven't been given the right roadmap.
Whether your dog is reactive, won't listen unless you have a treat in your hand, or is simply "too much" to handle, we start exactly where you are today.
We aren't here to lecture you on the past. We are here to build your future.
We don't "break" dogs; we build them. We focus on nervous system regulation and calm communication.
A trained dog is useless if they only listen to the trainer. Our primary goal is to make sure you are the most confident person at the end of the leash.
When you choose us, you aren't just "dropping your dog off." You are gaining a partner in your dog's education. We serve Bassett and the surrounding communities with a commitment to clarity, consistency, and follow-through.
We don't just show up for the training sessions; we show up for the life of your dog.
"Calm is trained, not expected. Let's start training it today."

Certifications matter — but they’re the floor, not the finish line. They show that we train ethically, follow professional standards, and stay accountable. What actually sets us apart is how those standards are applied in real life: your neighborhood, your dog, your distractions. No cookie-cutter drills. No shortcuts. Just clear communication, calm leadership, and repeatable results.
Our Philosophy
Dog training doesn’t fail because people don’t care. It fails because love without structure creates confusion.
Not “friendly.” Stable. Confident. Controllable.
Your Path to Success
A proven roadmap from frustrated owner to confident handler
The Connection.
We start with a deep dive into your dog's history and your specific lifestyle goals. We don't do "cookie-cutter" training; we build a plan that fits your real life.
The Education.
Whether it's a Puppy Program or our Kickstarter Board & Train, your dog enters a structured environment where they learn the "rules of the road," nervous system regulation, and reliable obedience.
The Empowerment.
This is the most important step. I spend 1-on-1 time coaching you. I show you exactly how to maintain the training, use the tools correctly, and read your dog's body language.
The Proof.
We move the training into the real world—neighborhoods, parks, and high-distraction areas. We ensure the obedience holds up when it actually matters.
The Partnership.
Training doesn't end when you go home. You become part of the LLK9 family with follow-up support, resources, and a trainer who is just a text away.
Let's build the life you and your dog deserve—one built on trust, clarity, and calm.
